A dance performance devised and performed by the Bethesda Arts Centre
Constanze Karl-Rückert, dancer at the Staatsballett Berlin, came to work with the Arts Centre Performing Arts Group in October 2009.
Within three weeks, ten of the Arts Centre’s visual Artists, who had never danced professionally before, where ready to perform a 20 min piece, named “Open End”. Through movement they expressed conflicts of today’s South Africa, its major social problems and the country’s unclear future. The audience was thrilled, and the evening ended with home made ginger beer and Karaokee.
The dancers – surprised and delighted by their success – were eager to dance again – which they did at the New Year’s Eve Festival of Lights.
