One of two quilts on the theme of justice commissioned by the Constitutional Court in Johannesburg. In this piece, each woman bravely depicts the injustice she has suffered in her own life. Her husband drinks all her money, or beats her up, or leaves her alone to care for their children – these are the personal hurts and injustices that women who know little of South Africa’s great constitution, suffer every day of their lives. Making this quilt was the beginning of a change in Nieu Bethesda. It became possible for women to speak out, instead of hiding their suffering in shame.
